The good shepherd knows you

Today the Church celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday, a day that reminds us that Jesus knows, loves, and leads his people with tenderness and strength. In the Gospel, the Lord says that his sheep hear his voice and follow him. This is a beautiful image of the Christian life: we are called not simply to believe in Jesus from a distance, but to walk closely with him each day.

I invite you to pause and ask yourself a simple question: whose voice am I following? In our busy world, many voices compete for our attention. Some offer comfort, but not truth; others promise freedom, but lead to confusion. The voice of the Good Shepherd is different. His word brings peace, clarity, mercy, and life. Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Jesus affirms something very personal: “I know them”. He doesn’t say, “I know about them”. He knows me, He knows you. He knows our struggles, He knows our fears, He know our wounds, He knows the part of our lives that no one else knows. And yet and even more so, He loves us and still calls us to follow Him. He leads us to streams of living water (the sacraments). He leads us, at times, through unexpected paths that we wouldn’t choose, but all for our good.

Good Shepherd Sunday is also a call to trust. The Lord does not ask us to be perfect before following him. He asks us to listen, to remain close, and to allow him to lead us. Even in moments of weakness or uncertainty, Christ remains faithful. He walks ahead of us, and he never abandons the flock he has gathered in love.

On this Sunday, the Church also prays especially for vocations. We ask the Lord to raise up holy priests, deacons, religious sisters and brothers, and faithful lay leaders who will serve his people with generosity and humility. The Church needs shepherds after the heart of Christ—men and women willing to give themselves for others, to teach the faith with courage, and to care for souls with compassion.

I feel very honored to be the shepherd of this parish family. Pray with me today that Holy Family Parish may always be a place where Christ’s voice is heard clearly, where His mercy is received gladly, and His love is shared generously. May our families, our ministries, and our entire community reflect the care of the Good Shepherd who leads us to life in abundance.

God is Good, All the Time!
